Read This If You Feel Like Quitting
Feel like quitting? Now I don’t know about you, but I’ve had many moments of feeling like quitting, both when I was progressing in my career and in business. Sometimes those moments were fleeting, and there were other times when it meant it was time for a change. Time to take a new direction and follow my passion and do what I was called to do.
The reasons behind those moments vary for all of us because what we experience and go through is different from one person to the next. Now I don’t do textbook and my commitment is to share with you the very best of what I’m living, learning and experiencing on my journey.
So you feel like quitting, well let me share ten things with you (that I’ve actually done myself) that may serve you. Test out the ones that resonate with you the most so you can bring yourself back to that place where you feel that sense of inner peace.
Identify why you feel like quitting.
- Did something happen to trigger it?
- Is it due to feeling tired?
- Does it relate to a lack of tangible results within a certain area?
Now ladies to keep it real, is it because it’s your monthly cycle? I remember I watched a video once on YouTube and there was a lady talking about not doing certain things in business when we’re on our period. I thought to myself, what kind of crap advice is this?!
It wasn’t crap at all… I started to reflect on the times when I would do something big in my business when I was on my period and those were the times when I wanted to throw in the towel the most. Which makes complete sense because it’s when I’m most emotional.
This isn’t going to apply to all women, but it’s something to take into consideration.
Ok, so once you’ve identified why you feel like quitting, you can actually do something about it and that doesn’t mean you have to do something right away.
Have faith (yes faith!)
Pray about it, meditate on it and just allow yourself to just breathe and be.
Take time out.
One of my favourite things to do is to sit on my sofa with my feet up, my duvet, a mighty malt, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream (big fan of cookie and dough and now hooked on cookie dough s’wich up) and just relax while watching my fave shows on NetFlix and online.
What’s your favourite thing to do? Take time out and just relax, allow yourself to have that downtime before making any rash decisions when you feel like quitting.
Stay true to how you’re feeling.
OK, so I agree with GaryVee who shared a message on social media which was positivity always wins, always! I agree with this statement 100%, but we cannot and will not be positive all the time.
Staying true to how you are feeling is about not brushing the negativity under the carpet. It’s about acknowledging it, addressing it and moving on from it when you are ready.
I’m a big fan of tapping and what I love about it, is it allows me to express how I feel about things that are not so great and tap through them until I’m ready to flip it and move back into that positive space.
Go back to your why.
We all start something and accept opportunities that are presented to us for a reason right? Now if you’re nodding yes to this or thinking it in your mind I have a question for you.
Are you prepared at this stage to really quit and give up on what could be? This isn’t a trick question, the answer could be no or yes and it’s an answer that you and only you have to feel.
Now I want to share two personal examples with you. When I started to work for myself, my first business idea was a company called Colour Your Success which helped young people to develop their mindset and skills within a professional environment.
In 2013 I decided it was time to quit and let go because I realised that one, it wasn’t what I was really called to do, two the market within that space was saturated and three it wasn’t going to give me the lifestyle I desired.
Example two relates to when I decided to go in a new direction in my business and introduce meditation and other things that I knew had the ability to support the success of others from personal experience, but I knew I was going to lose people from my audience.
But I was excited to see what was on the other side of what I had not planned for. The reason why I share this is because it’s ok to change course, it’s ok to do things that not everyone is going to like and it’s ok to stand in your power and not give a damn what other people have to say.
Seven is to speak with someone.
Who is that one person you trust within your circle who will just listen and pitch in and ask the right questions when needed? For me, it’s my sister. Speaking with her helps me to look at things from a different perspective. Talking things out can also help us to realise that things are not as bad as we may have originally thought and it can help us to come to a conclusion, that we have been running away from.
Understand that nothing will be perfect.
I believe I’ve shared this before, but it’s worth saying it again. Nothing is perfect. Everything has some kind of flaw, but it’s those flaws that make us and what we do unique. Think of it this way, good, better, best.
Start where you are and with the resources you have. When I started sending emails and speaking with people about Brands of Colour, I had nothing to show them. No website nothing.
All I had was words, passion and a vision for what I was aiming to create. What I’m getting at here is you are one of your best resources. Use the gifts you’ve been blessed with and your mind to find solutions to make what you want great.
Look at the expectations you’re placing on yourself.
I like to set big goals to achieve and stretch myself. However, there are times when I’ve overstretched myself. The result has been, I didn’t achieve what I set out to which would then make me feel crap!
Stretch yourself and think big. Als,o evaluate your goals and the expectations you are placing on yourself and just to be clear. This isn’t about lowering your standards, it’s simply about being real with yourself.
Think and feel yourself about your decision.
This really encompasses most of the points I’ve gone through. If your heart is no longer in something and you just don’t want to do it anymore, you can choose to stop and let go. Or keep going and pushing through to that place you visioned when you started.
No one, but you can make the decision. Ultimately, the direction, the road you choose to go down is down to you. When you feel like quitting, stop, step back and do one of the nine things listed above or read 6 Ways To Protect Yourself From Negative Energy.
