I decided to take part in the Oprah and Deepak: Expanding Your Happiness – 21 Day Meditation Experience. I have to admit, I signed up the first time round, but missed too many days! The focus of day one was on the feeling of joy and the reflection journal had the following question:
Remember a time recently when you were happy. Maybe you were taking a walk, fixing breakfast, or thinking of a friend. Perhaps you associated the source of your happiness to that which you were doing or thinking, but consider all the other times you may have been doing or thinking the same thing, yet you didn’t feel happy. Where do you believe that feeling of happiness came from? Write down your thoughts in detail.
Cutting out the things that don’t bring growth to my life, are negative, and don’t contribute helps to bring a sense of happiness. We are what we feed our mind and having the right mindset, changes the way how I feel. I love spending time with my family, they mean more to me than words could ever express. Being around them ignites a sense of peace, joy and happiness within me. There are many other things that make me happy and answering the question was a great exercise to think back to those happy moments and where the feeling of happiness came from. It also made me think I need to be creating and doing more of them!
We all have the chance to decide how we spend our time, and who with. The ability to be happy is within each of us.
Life isn’t always full of sunshine, rainbows and roses. But, imagine the difference it could make if we spent more time doing what makes us happy? If you can hand on heart say you are doing this, that’s great. If not, you can change it whenever you choose to because you are in the driving seat to let your happiness shine outwards.
Every second, minute, hour and day presents us with an opportunity to make a difference, to make a change. Expand and increase the level of happiness in your life by doing more of what you love and what makes you happy.
Life is for the living, taking chances, doing new things, spending time with the ones we love and on the things that make us happy.
