Dealing With Disappointment In Life

Dealing with disappointment in life is something we all have to face as some point, regardless of our circumstances. It’s something we will all experience, because it’s simply part of life.

This is not a topic I have specifically focused on before and dealing with disappointment in life will be different from one person to the next. However, I thought it would be beneficial to share how l deal with disappointment when it shows up.

Now you can take what I’m going to share with you as a step by step approach to dealing with disappointment in life or just take away whatever resonates with you and you feel connected to.

Release Yourself From The Disappointment

This is simply about releasing how you feel and not allowing those feelings to bottle up. Sit with your emotions for a while until you feel ready to move on from it. For me, I switch off for a bit to reflect and get some perspective before moving forward. So this is where I look at the situation as a whole.

So for example, I take into account how the disappointment came about and why? Was there anything that I could have done to avoid whatever it is that happened from resulting in a disappointment.

I also look at why I actually view it as a disappointment and sometimes this is because I could have done something better, or handled a situation better. But everything is a learning curve right? So the things that happen in our life enable us to learn something new.

Acknowledge Your Energy

Everything is energy and whatever is going on within will be projected outwards so we have to look at what energy is being released due to the disappointment, and the impact it’s having on the way we feel.

Life is paved with highs and lows, but it’s how we approach and view things that really make a difference. Recreate the story that’s coming from the energy you have going on within. Two ways to do this is through gratitude and remembering that it’s not the end of the world.

When disappointments show up, we still breathe through it. That alone should be enough to know that the journey isn’t over and there is more work for you to do.

If you was to take that one disappointment, how does it compare to everything you do have? That’s a question for you to ponder on.

Accept It

Whats done is done and there is only so much we can do sometimes. So for example, I once experienced disappointment from how someone reacted towards me which I was taken aback by. There are times when there will be situations where it has nothing to do with you.

As we grow and evolve and people see the moves we make, there will be those who want to attack that. The way how I dealt with it was I vented to get it out of my system, accepted what had taken place and acknowledged that it wasn’t about me. Some disappointments mean letting go and releasing people from our lives.

Remain Focused On The Vision

Nothing should have such a power over you that it gets in the way of your vision. It’s like that quote you may have heard, remember why you started. I actually watched a short video with Sara Blakely the Founder of Spanx and she was talking about her failures and she shares them on a regular basis with her team and she calls them ‘oops’.

Failures and disappointments could be considered one of the same. If Sara didn’t remain focused on the vision Spanx would not be the incredible brand it is; shaping and transforming the bodies of women across the globe.

Celebrate

Yep celebrate, because that disappointment could be wrapped up as a blessing over your life. Some things are not meant to be so what could appear as a disappointment could be a way of letting you know there is something so much better on the way for you.

This is something I went through recently and I am so grateful for the disappointment that showed up when it did, because it prevented what could have snowballed into something much bigger down the line.

How do you go about dealing with disappointment in life when it shows up? Share with a comment so we can learn from each other.
